*FICHERA: is a term used in Mexico to describe a woman that works in a Cantina or Night Club dancing with the men, they may or not be prostitutes but most commonly are, the men buy “fichas” or tokens from the bar, each “ficha” is worth a dance with a girl.

I entered a very ill reputed Cantina in Mexico City dressed in a provocative way and carrying a knife in my belt. I bought a beer and some “fichas”, played a Bolero on the Jukebox and asked some of the men there to dance with me. They all declined. I drank another beer and smoked a cigar. Proving that even stereotypes can sometimes fail.
